State DNR to area boaters: Slow down, reduce your wake
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources is advising boaters to keep wake to a minimum while traveling waterways in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
Most of the docks throughout the counties sustained damage from Hurricane Matthew, and the force that comes with wake is strong enough to further damage these docks, according to a SCDNR news release.
Some dock owners are also expressing concerns about the inability to work on their docks because of the constant wake being created by passing boats.
SCDNR officers will be patrolling local waterways over the next few weeks to ensure boaters are traveling at appropriate speeds and are obeying boating laws, the release said.
