A nurse with Hilton Head Hospital has received an award given to “extraordinary nurses.”

Carla Heightland, RN, has received the Diseases Attacking the Immune System, or DAISY, award, according to a news release.

A nurse in the hospital’s labor and delivery department, Heightland received the distinction for helping many patients deliver, the release stated.

Most recently, Heightland stayed with a patient who had been in labor for two days and felt uncomfortable about having a C-section. The patient was able to deliver naturally and found out later that Heightland had provided similar care to many others.

The award was established by The DAISY Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. which recognizes nurse achievements.
