Hilton Head organization receives $40,000 grant for breast cancer awareness program

Hilton Head Island's Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) has been awarded a $40,000 grant to assist with the organization's mammogram program, according to a news release.

The one-year grant, awarded by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, will help to increase awareness of early detection of breast cancer.

It is the twelfth year VIM has received funding from the program.

Since 2005, VIM's mammogram program has reached more than 16,000 women with information about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and has referred nearly 7,000 women for mammograms and clinical breast exams.

For more information on VIM's mammogram program, call Jessica Medina at 843-681-6612.
