2 free COVID-19 testing events scheduled in Yemassee. Here’s where and when
Two new COVID-19 testing clinics have been scheduled in Yemassee.
Both of the drive-thru events are free, according to town officials and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. No appointments are needed:
A mobile testing clinic will be set up at the Yemassee Municipal Complex on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Another “pop-up” clinic will be at the municipal complex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24.
Coronavirus test results will be available within seven to 10 days, if not sooner, according to the town.
DHEC and the Medical University of South Carolina are helping host the events.
Since mid-August, nearby Beaufort County has seen fewer daily COVID-19 cases. But the percentage of positive coronavirus tests in the county remains high. And experts fear a surge of new infections this fall as schools resume in-person classes.
DHEC has also warned of a possible uptick in cases following the long Labor Day weekend.
Widespread COVID-19 testing is critical to identifying both symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus.
Because people can spread the deadly pathogen without feeling sick, testing is one of the few ways DHEC can squelch future outbreaks.
Dr. Brannon Traxler, a DHEC physician consultant, is urging residents to get tested even if they have mild symptoms or think they just have allergies, considering the high percentage of positive tests in South Carolina.
