Coronavirus

You can get a free coronavirus test on Hilton Head on Monday. What you need to know

Hilton Head Island will host another testing event for COVID-19 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at Hilton Head High School.

The event will be set up as a drive-thru with nasal swab tests available without a doctor’s note or appointment.

The new testing event comes after 900 people were tested on Wednesday at the school. The National Guard opened the testing site early and stayed an hour late to test as many people as possible.

S.C. Sen. Tom Davis said the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control will stock 1,000 tests for Monday’s event.

The results of tests are confidential and cannot be reported to your employer. You do not need a driver’s license or personal identification to be tested.

Workers take a nose swab from a patient at the free COVID-19 test site on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the Elijah Washington Medical Center in Sheldon. With about two hours to go for the day, and in near 90-degree heat, Mark Spurling, chief tech officer for the Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services said the center had 170 registered patients. Asked how painful the test was, Spurling replied, “It’s a nose swab test but it’s not that bad.” But, he said, “I wouldn’t want to do it for fun.”
