There were 25 new people who tested positive for the coronavirus reported in Beaufort County Saturday, another double-digit increase in cases that marks a record-breaking week in the county.
Beaufort County has 566 reported cases of coronavirus since the pandemic started, according to S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control data.
Bluffton has the largest number of cases in the county at 146, with 11 new cases recorded Saturday.
South Carolina recorded 770 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday, which was a new record in single-day cases for the state set one day after a record high of 687 cases on Thursday.
There were also six new deaths statewide Saturday.
In total, the state has 17,955 reported cases and 599 deaths as of that same date. There were no new deaths reported in Beaufort County on Saturday.
Positive test rate
Around 5,794 people were tested for the coronavirus on Friday in South Carolina, and the percent of tests that came back positive was 13.3%, DHEC reported.
When the percent positive is low, it may indicate that more widespread testing is being performed and the percent positive may more accurately reflect how much disease is present in the community, the news release says.

Beaufort county cases by ZIP code
Beaufort County could have as many as 3,477 undiagnosed cases, DHEC officials say.
DHEC does not provide an overall, county-by-county number of cases versus the number of people who have recovered. It also does not release any identifying information or specifics concerning underlying conditions a patient might have.
Positive cases are those in which a patient has been tested and diagnosed with coronavirus. Because of a lack of access to testing, state health officials have said that for every confirmed case, there could be up to nine people who are infected but have not been tested.
DHEC’s totals can have small increases and decreases day to day as officials find discrepancies in the data.
The cases include anyone who has tested positive since the pandemic started. The data also includes those who have recovered or died. DHEC counts deaths based on where the patient lives rather than where he or she passes away.
