‘We hope we’ve made a difference:’ Hilton Head, Bluffton free meal program ending

A program that distributed free meals on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton is ending its daily service on Thursday, according to a news release from Coligny Plaza.

The partnership between FISH Casual Coastal Seafood and Operation BBQ began distributing free meals in early April. The program expanded to offer free meals in Bluffton on April 21.

The final two days of meals will be distributed at both FISH on Hilton Head and The Enclave Apartments on Bluffton Parkway from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

The program, which was available to anyone who came to the pickup locations, distributed over 20,000 meals in April.

“We hope we’ve made a difference for all of those who have been affected by this pandemic and that you have received a little bit of comfort and solace from our meals,” a Facebook post from FISH said. “We hope that your employment and personal situations begin to improve very soon as things slowly start to get back to normal for everyone.”

The meals were provided by FISH and Operation BBQ Relief, a Missouri company formed to help distribute meals following the 2011 tornado that devastated the city of Joplin, Missouri.
