Here are the public spaces Beaufort, Port Royal just closed due to coronavirus
Beaufort and Port Royal are shuttering public spaces in response to the governor’s recent directives to slow coronavirus.
The city of Beaufort is closing playgrounds, Beaufort Downtown Marina and the downtown and Pigeon Point boat landings effective Wednesday. Beaufort parks will remain open, but users must maintain separation of at least 6 feet and not form groups larger than three people.
Restrooms are open at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park and Pigeon Point Park. Southside Park dog park will be open, but no more than three people are allowed in at a time, the city said in a release.
Port Royal is closing town playgrounds, Sands Beach, Port Royal Boat Landing and the boardwalk along Battery Creek. The skate park in Naval Heritage Park is also closed, but parks remain open for passive uses.
The weekly farmers market will not be held in Naval Heritage Park. Town officials are working on another location for vendors to deliver to customers who ordered ahead, Town Manager Van Willis said.
The closures follow an order from Gov. Henry McMaster on Tuesday closing non-essential businesses. The directive included public playground equipment.
