Chatham County reports first coronavirus case, Savannah declares state of emergency.

Chatham County reported its first confirmed case of coronavirus Friday, according to a statement from Georgia’s Coastal Health Department.

“The individual is currently isolated at home, and the source of the exposure is unknown,” the statement read.

On Thursday, Savannah mayor Van Johnson declared a state of emergency for the City of Savannah, which goes into effect at 8 a.m. Saturday.

According to Johnson’s statement, during the state of emergency:

  • All bars and nightclubs that do not serve food will close;
  • Restaurants must reduce dine-in seating by 50 percent, and may continue to offer take-out and delivery options;
  • All city-operated metered and garage parking will be free for the first hour;

  • Gyms, fitness centers, movie theaters, live performance venues, bowling alleys and arcades will close;

  • All sightseeing, guided and/or narrated tours must stop operations.

Georgia reported 420 cases Friday, an increase of 133 from Thursday, and 13 deaths.
