Hilton Head gated communities drop gate fee for food delivery during coronavirus
Two of the biggest gated communities on Hilton Head Island announced Wednesday they would drop commercial gate entry fees for food and pharmaceutical deliveries to help residents and visitors adhere to coronavirus precautions.
Sea Pines and Hilton Head Plantation announced in separate emails to residents that delivery drivers would be able to enter the communities for free.
The announcements come one day after S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster ordered all restaurants and bars to close dine-in services and limit contact with guests to takeout and delivery services.
Starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sea Pines waived the $10 commercial entry fee for food, grocery, restaurant, and pharmaceutical delivery services.
“We recognize that many in our Sea Pines Community will need to take advantage of delivery services from our local restaurants. Indeed, we hope that our community will continue to support our local restaurant industry at a time when these state-mandated measures could have a serious impact on their businesses,” CSA President Sam Bennett said in the announcement.
Drivers delivering food from restaurants, groceries or medications will need to provide a current invoice, receipt or other identification of the delivering restaurant or store to the gate officer at the Sea Pines’ Greenwood Drive or South Forest Beach gates.
The security gate officer will then issue complimentary Sea Pines commercial daily gate entry pass, the release said.
The $8 gate fee for non-commercial entries to Sea Pines is still in place, according to Sea Pines CSA Director of Communications, Amanda Sutcliffe-Jones.
“All other Sea Pines gate fees remain unchanged at this time. The waiver of the $10 commercial gate entry fee applies to food, grocery, restaurant and pharmaceuticals delivery services due to COVID-19,” she said.
