Welcome to the future.

With the help of Ford and a mandate from the Internet, a British inventor and YouTuber named Colin Furze has created a hoverbike.

Furze starts out with a simple concept, “Let’s make a flying machine.” He adds parts from the automaker, manic energy, and technical terms like “stoppy bits,” to bring his creation to life in a series of videos posted to YouTube. In the climax, posted Thursday, the bike takes flight with Furze in tow.

The inventor, who previously has brought the denizens of YouTube machines such as a flamethrower scooter, magnetic shoes meant to mimic the powers of a comic book villain, and something called a jettle (kind of a turbocharged teakettle), is a 32-year-old former plumber from a town called Stamford in Lincolnshire, England.

His inventions, he says, are meant to show that a person doesn’t need advanced tools and degrees to create marvels.

“The things i make are made with tools that proper engineers would laugh at but i'm proof you don't need an expensive lathe and huge welder to create something amazing,” he says on his website.
