Didn’t win the 2020 HGTV Dream Home near Hilton Head? It’s up for grabs again

If yours was one of the 144 million entries in the 2020 HGTV Dream Home giveaway that didn’t win, you may have another chance!

The dream home — located on the marsh in Windmill Harbour near Hilton Head Island — has been listed for sale, according to Jean Beck, the CEO of the Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors.

It is listed for $1,595,000, Beck said.

The home was given away in the HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes in April.

Susan O’Gorman, of Perry, Georgia, won the 3,500-square foot home after faithfully entering the drawing every day.

“My favorite part of the house is not a room; it is the outdoors. I just love that backyard, it looks like a place you’d go escape and relax,” she said. “But there’s not a part of that house that I don’t love.”

Winning the home is a massive financial commitment, though.

Property taxes on homes of similar value are between $25,000 and $29,000 each year, according to the Beaufort County tax calculator.

If she hadn’t chosen to collect the prize of the dream home and Honda Passport Elite, O’Gorman could have taken home a $2 million cash prize.

In South Carolina, about $640,000 in state and federal income taxes would have been taken from the award.
