Rock Steady Boxing now available at Riptide MMA in Bluffton
Riptide MMA in Bluffton now offers Rock Steady Boxing, an exercise program based on training used by boxing professionals but adapted for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
The program, led by trainer John Juarez, a former professional fighter, involves exercises such as stretching, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing and lots of non-contact boxing. The program serves both men and women of various ages and levels of abilities and is geared to people at all stages of Parkinson’s disease.
The program was developed in Indianapolis over the course of seven years and is based on the research that validated physical and neurological improvement in Parkinson’s patients, participating in intense, forced workouts. Studies have shown delays, reversal and/or reduction in symptoms.The program is aimed at reducing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by improving core strength, balance, stability, posture, range of motion and enhancing “mind, muscle connection.”
Riptide MMA is at 36 Persimmons St., Suite 303, in Bluffton. Classes are from 11 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays. An initial assessment is required.
