Electric bill money helps charities feed the hungry

Palmetto Electric recently awarded $77,000 to two area charities through its Operation Round Up program in which customers’ monthly bills are rounded up to the nearest whole dollar and the difference is collected and distributed through a trust board.

Second Helpings received $67,000 to purchase a fully equipped refrigerated truck to deliver donated food items to pantries in Hampton County. The truck made its first delivery to the United Ministries of Hampton County. The ministry also received approximately $10,000 to purchase and install a walk-in refrigerator/freezer to be used at its food pantry.
