Palmetto Electric to hold annual meeting May 7

Palmetto Electric Cooperative will hold its annual meeting of members from noon to 6 p.m. May 7 at Palmetto Electric’s Ridgeland office on U.S. 278.

An auction of vehicles and office equipment begins at noon. A flea market will open at noon and remain open throughout the day. Children’s entertainment includes a rock climbing wall, Cappy the Clown and Palmetto Electric’s Linny the Lineman. Musical entertainment begins at 2 p.m. with Graham’s Turnout, and the Headliners will perform at 4 p.m.

The public is invited to tour the marketing exhibit where representatives from Palmetto Electric’s Marketing Department will be on hand to answer questions. The concession will be operated by Beaufort/Jasper Academy of Career Excellence and Palmetto Electric’s WIRE and will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, refreshments and home-baked goods beginning at noon.

Four directors will be elected, including two from Beaufort County, and one each from Hampton and Jasper Counties.

Incumbent Henry Driessen Jr. runs unopposed for Beaufort County’s Position 2, and James L. Rowe runs unopposed for Beaufort County’s Position 5. Incumbent D. Terrell Smith runs unopposed for Position 2, Hampton County. For Jasper County’s Position 2, incumbent Jeremiah E. Vaigneur also runs unopposed.

Checks for Capital Credits assigned from 1990, 1991, 1992 and 2015 over $25 will be mailed the week of May 9 to members who register at the Annual Meeting. Capital credits of $25 or less will be issued as an electric bill credit. Members not attending the May 7 meeting will receive their credits or checks in December of this year.

Each registered member will receive a $15 credit on their electric bill and a wet/dry auto vac. Registered members also qualify to win one of several prizes to be given away that evening, including a flat screen television, a Meco Electric Smoker, a Butterball Turkey Fryer, a Blue Tooth Speaker or this year’s grand prize of a 2006 Ford Hybird Escape. Members must be present to win.
