Which Wich sandwich shop nears opening in Bluffton’s Belfair Towne Village

Lauren Curtis is ready to open her new sandwich shop, but first she’s got to deliver her baby.

“I’m trying to get him to come out,” Curtis said Tuesday. “Some of our customers (at the Hilton Head Island Which Wich) that know everything that’s going on are, like, ‘What if you go into labor?’ ‘I would be happy about that,’ I said.”

Curtis and her husband, Grant, hope to open their second Which Wich location in Bluffton’s Belfair Town Village on April 22. But the arrival of their first baby – who’s due in a few days – could delay things. Still, plans are in place to have the Bluffton location up and running by the end of the month.

The new store is located in the space previously occupied by Lovin’ Spoons, a frozen yogurt shop, at 95 Towne Drive.

“(Lovin’ Spoons) left back in August, so it was empty for a little bit there,” Lauren Curtis said. “We started construction in February. But Lovin’ Spoons had done a renovation five or six years ago, I think, so the building was in great condition.”

Curtis said the new restaurant will employ 16 to 18 people, four of whom are already training at the Hilton Head store. Both locations are currently hiring for all positions, she said.

“We have 51 different sandwiches, everything from a gyro to a classic turkey sandwich,” Curtis said.

The couple, who lives in Bluffton, opened their first Which Wich in September. At the moment they don’t have plans for a third store. A new baby boy will keep them busy.

They’ll call him Charlie. He’s due on April Fool’s Day.
