Gilman Floors will have a new address this spring.

The flooring company, currently at 1113 Fording Island Road, is moving to Bridge Center this spring, according to president Doug Gilman. The business — which sells hardwood, carpet, tile, vinyl, stone and rugs — is expected to open in April in the former Metro Diner, at 1523 Fording Island Road.

Gilman said the move is in anticipation of a shopping center heading to the site of his current store, at the intersection of Fording Island and Burnt Church roads. The unnamed center is by Atlanta-based Jaz Development, which is also developing Bluffton Gateway, containing a Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club, down the road.

“Space is difficult to find (in Bluffton), but this (location) was a good opportunity for us,” Gilman said.

The former restaurant is being renovated now, he said, and will be about 7,000 square feet and two stories when finished.
