Fahey: Jiva Yoga Center closing north-end Hilton Head location

After three years of operation on northern Hilton Head Island, Jiva Yoga is closing one of its studios.

The center's location at 55 Mathews Drive will host its final classes on Jan. 30. The Bluffton and south-end Hilton Head studios will remain open.

Popular classes taught at the northern Hilton Head studio will be added to the south-end and Bluffton locations starting next week.

Jiva Yoga has operated on Hilton Head since 2001. The Bluffton studio, at 3 Godfrey Place, opened last fall.

Jiva co-owner Jean Rioux said the lease for the Mathews Drive location ended this month and it was "a good opportunity" to re-evaluate what made sense for the business.

Ultimately, Rioux added, two studios was ideal for Jiva Yoga Center, considering the size of the local population.

The south-end location, at 1032 William Hilton Parkway, will receive some aesthetic upgrades in the near future, Rioux said, but no other changes are planned for Jiva Yoga.
