Miss Hilton Head Island, Teen and Pre-Teen pageants to take place Saturday

A scholarship pageant competition with three age groups will take place on Hilton Head Island this weekend.

The Miss Hilton Head Island and Miss Hilton Head Island Teen competition is at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at Hilton Head Island High School's Seahawk Cultural Center, 70 Wilborn Road, Hilton Head.

Contestants from around the state will compete in five phases of competition -- an interview round with judges, a fitness round for Miss Teen, a swimsuit round for Miss Hilton Head, a talent round and an evening wear round.

Each contestant will discuss her platform -- a social or community issue of concern to herself and society.

Miss Hilton Head Island will be awarded a $1500 college scholarship along with prizes.

Other scholarship money will be awarded to preliminary competition winners, runners-up and special award winners.

Winners of the competition also will be eligible to compete for the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen titles in Columbia in June.

In addition, the pageant will include a pre-teen competition for girls, which will be held earlier in the day from 3-4 p.m. Jan. 30.

The winner will serve as Miss Hilton Head Island's Official Princess to the Miss South Carolina Pageant.

Tickets for the Miss Hilton Head Island and Miss Hilton Head Island Teen competition at 7 p.m. are $20 with discounts for students.

Tickets for the Pre-Teen pageant at 3 p.m. are $10.
