Final radio station downed by computer upgrade back on air

All three of the area's radio stations that were off the air Tuesday and Wednesday are back on the air, according to the stations' general manager Mike Buxser said in an email Thursday morning.

The stations, owned by Hilton Head Island-based Apex Broadcasting, went down shortly after midnight Tuesday and were off the air for more than 24 hours because of an Internet upgrade, Buxser said on Tuesday.

WVSC-FM SC 103 and WLHH-FM 104.9 "The Surf" were back transmitting by Wednesday morning but a third station, WVSC-HD 2 "Easy" 106.5, remained off the air until Wednesday around 9:45 p.m., he said.

A backup system was put into place and technicians worked on the stations' primary network Wednesday, Buxser said.
