Gulfstream plans layoffs
Gulfstream has announced plans to reduce its contractor and employee workforce by a combined 1,100 people.
The Savannah-based business aircraft manufacturer said the layoffs would occur across all of its US-based locations and include 600 contract workers and 500 employees.
In a prepared statement, the company said the reduction, representing about 6 percent of its worldwide workforce of 16,500 contractors and employees, is the result of ordinary evaluations of costs and workforce requirements. The employee layoffs, which are about 3 percent of employees, will occur among "indirect support staff," according to the statement.
The company said it has arranged programs to assist workers with placement elsewhere. Some laid off employees also might qualify for severance pay and/or benefits extensions.
