Nurse receives hospital's award for 'extraordinary nurses'

A nurse with Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville has received an award given to "extraordinary nurses."

Mary Beth Nedley, RN, received the Diseases Attacking the Immune System, or DAISY, award at a presentation held at the hospital on Oct. 22, according to a news release.

Nedley received the award after caring for a dying patient as if she were a member of Nedley's family, the release stated.

Nedley provided not only excellent clinical care for her patient but also for the patient's family.

Nedley, who had been nominated for the award on previous occasions, was among 23 nurses nominated for the award. Those nurses also were honored at the awards presentation.

The award was established by The DAISY Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. which recognizes nurse achievements.
