Overview
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance full-size luxury hybrid sports sedan is the most powerful S-Class in history, getting a total of 791 horsepower and 1,055 lb-ft of torque from a hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine plus an electric motor on the rear axle. This is good enough to slingshot the near-6,000-pound sedan to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, ably assisted by a 9-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel steering, and AMG Performance 4Matic AWD.
Yet, the standard AMG Ride Control air suspension also ensures the kind of ride comfort expected of an S-Class, enabling this AMG to rub shoulders with exalted company like the sumptuous Bentley Flying Spur and sporty Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
What's New for 2025
The 2025 AMG S 63 E Performance gets a 3-year SiriusXM Extended Subscription and smartphone-based digital key capability as standard convenience features, while safety is shored up by the addition of a front center airbag. Dolby Atmos integration is added to the Burmester 3D surround-sound audio system.
More options come on stream this year, including carbon-ceramic composite brakes with 16.5 x 1.6-inch discs and bronze 6-piston callipers, as well as the option to increase the top speed to 180 mph. Two metallic paint options join the palette: Verde Silver and Sonoran Brown. The only other change is that the Executive Line trim is renamed Pinnacle.
The 2026 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance's price is $186,200.
Exterior
The S 63 E Performance follows the template of the standard S-Class and has its familiar profile, but with some restrained AMG intent added, starting with bigger front air intakes, a wider grille, and 20-inch AMG wheels. Quad exhausts finish off the shape while maintaining the expected executive decorum. The long, graceful silhouette conveys power through its proportions instead of aggressive add-ons, and there's an extensive color palette and several exclusive Manufaktur colors.
Interior
The cabin is peak S-Class, with AMG-specific animations for the 12.3-inch 3D gauge cluster. The 12.8-inch portrait MBUX center touchscreen incorporates biometric authentication, navigation, over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and 710-W, 15-speaker Burmester 3D surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos.
Standard kit includes illuminated sill plates, Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, massaging 12-way power front seats, 64-color adjustable ambient lighting, power outboard rear seats, heated armrests, and soft-close doors.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- 791 hp and 1,055 lb-ft make it the most powerful S-Class ever
- Carbon-ceramic brakes with AMG bronze calipers now available for 2025
- Exceptional interior quality with true executive rear-seat comfort
- F1-derived hybrid system adds performance, not just an efficiency badge
Cons
- Approx. 16-mile electric range is modest for a plug-in hybrid
- Near-6,000-lb curb weight limits agility
- No complimentary maintenance included at $186,200
- Single trim offers little structural differentiation beyond the options list
Verdict
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance defines the space it occupies. It's unique among full-size luxury sports sedans, since none of its price rivals offer close to 800 hp and this level of performance, though the more expensive Bentley Flying Spur is also a PHEV nowadays. The F1-derived PHEV architecture convincingly proves that AMG performance and electrification can coexist. Even carbon-ceramic brakes are available this year for the serious driver.
The minuses are perhaps not unexpected, including a curb weight of nearly 6,000 pounds, which means that even the trick suspension struggles to hide the car's weight, as well as the rather low 16-mile electric range and the small 10.7-cu-ft trunk. It's also sobering that no complimentary maintenance is included at $186K, at a time when even Audi offers this benefit now. Accept these terms and the S 63 E Performance is still one of the most comfortable ways to go embarrassingly fast.
