Overview
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is a high-performance full-size luxury SUV with three rows and seating for up to seven people. Its handcrafted twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine with EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance puts out 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, dispatched to a 9-speed automatic transmission to a 4Matic+ AWD system, making it capable of a 0-60 sprint of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph.
Besides near-supercar performance, it can also tow 7,700 pounds and accept as much as 84.7 cu-ft worth of luggage with the rear two rows folded. You pay a hefty $150K price for all this ability, but if you can afford it, it combines riveting acceleration, stout towing capacity, and 3-row luxury in one vehicle. Rivals are fairly few, and include the Cadillac Escalade-V, BMW Alpina XB7, and Range Rover P615 SV.
What's New for 2025
The 2025 AMG GLS 63 carries over virtually unchanged after its comprehensive 2024 refresh, and only gains standard fingerprint authentication and an AMG crest on the front headrests this year.
However, the extra-cost Manufaktur catalog is significantly expanded with four new Manufaktur Signature paint colors: Ireland Mild Green Metallic, Mystic Blue Metallic, Silicon Grey, and Côte d'Azur Light Blue Metallic. Inside, three new Manufaktur Signature Nappa leather upholstery colors are offered: Yacht Blue, Carmine Red, and Truffle Brown. A Manfuktur Signature Interior package is also now offered.
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLS's price is $149,500.
Exterior
With a length of 206.4 inches, a width of 79.9 inches, and a wheelbase of 123.4 inches, the AMG GLS 63 is a large full-size SUV, though not in the Escalade ESV class. It weighs in at a hefty 6,118 pounds. The big body is fronted by a striking AMG Panamericana grille with vertical chrome slats, and you get LED headlights, a wide stance, quad exhausts, AMG-specific bumpers, and 21-inch AMG alloys, upgradable to 22 or 23 inches.
Interior
The MBUX infotainment system comprises 12.3-inch displays for the gauge cluster and touchscreen, and features include the AMG Track Pace feature, navigation, biometric authentication, the "Hey, Mercedes" assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, and a 13-speaker Burmester audio system. A rear-seat entertainment system costs extra. You also get Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power front seats, 5-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front cupholders, a wireless charging pad, a panorama roof, and lots more.
With 34.6 inches of legroom and 38.9 inches of headroom, the third row will accommodate adults, but it's best suited to people of smaller stature. The second row's numbers are a truly generous 41.9 and 40.2 inches, respectively. The trunk accommodates an acceptable 17.4 cu-ft behind the third row, but as much as 84.7 cu-ft can be fitted in with both rear rows folded down.

Cons:

- $149,500 base before options; most configured examples exceed $165,000

Verdict
The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is a 6,000-pound 3-row SUV that can do many of the things expected of these behemoths, like seating seven people, loading up to 84.7 cu-ft of cargo, cossetting its occupants in air-suspended comfort, and towing up to 7,700 pounds. But the trick up its sleeve is that it can also outrun many a sports car with a 4.1-second sprint to 60 mph and packs lots of advanced AMG performance hardware, including a track app.
It's as pointless and outrageous as it is fun to drive, and the existence of the XB7 and Escalade-V demonstrates that there's a market for super-quick outsize SUVs. If you have $150K lying around, it's certainly one of the best rapid three-row SUVs out there, and a lot cheaper than the Maybachs and Bentaygas of the world, so you could even call it good value.
