Mama G’s, popular pizza restaurant near Hilton Head bridges, permanently closed

Fans of Mama G’s Pizza Bistro and Bar in Bluffton were caught off guard Tuesday after receiving an email saying the restaurant had closed permanently.

The family owned and operated restaurant had drawn crowds to Moss Creek Village, located along U.S. 278 near the bridges to Hilton Head since its opening in the spring of 2022.

On Wednesday morning, this notice was posted on the restaurant’s website: “It is with hearfelt saddness (sic) that we must announce that Mama G’s has permanently closed. We are so grateful to all our wonderful customers for your love and support. It was a privilege to get to know and serve you all, and we are delighted that you all loved our pizza so much! We will miss you!”

Mama G’s was owned by Glen Grace, a transplant to Beaufort County from New Jersey; his wife, Bridgette; and their children.

While Grace’s background was in the trucking industry, his three grown children had been working for restaurants in the area. “I told them, ‘If you want to give me a three-year commitment, I can open up a restaurant, and you can be your own boss,’” Grace told The Island Packet when the restaurant opened.

Last March, Mama G’s was among two finalists competing for newspaper readers’ votes to claim the title of Best Pizza in Beaufort County.

The circumstances surrounding the restaurant’s closing were not made public.
