Bluffton’s new mini golf course expected to open by the summer after series of delays
After a year of little to no updates, the mini golf course under construction at Buckwalter Place in Bluffton is set to finish construction, with the owners hopeful to open by summer.
Lighthouse Lagoon Mini Golf, the small course near Publix and across from Station 300, has been sitting in an uncompleted state for months.
Billy and Collin Hubbard, the father and son owners of the course, originally planned to open the business in summer 2022, then November. But, supply chain issues, particularly getting concrete pipes needed for stormwater management, kept preventing progress at the site.
The needed pipes are now on site, according to Billy Hubbard, and just need to be installed underground. Once installed the site will have access to both water and power. Then, landscaping and constructing the course’s buildings can be completed simultaneously.
All the holes for the course are completed, but still missing the “grass” carpet.
Ideally, Billy Hubbard said, the course will be ready to open in May, “if we don’t have any other bumps in the road,” he said.
The father-son duo, having grown up in Bluffton, felt Bluffton didn’t have enough outdoor family activities.
““I was born and raised here,” said Billy Hubbard. “Even still, there’s not a lot to do here. Mini golf is something that everyone can do. So, we’re excited to bring something for everyone.”
The course will be only one-acre mini golf location and feature 18 holes themed around the Lowcountry. The first nine will be wheelchair accessible.
To fit the Lowcountry theme, palmetto trees and other natural amenities will decorate the course. The titular lighthouse is colored to resemble the one on Hunting Island.
Two buildings will be on site: a roughly 1,300-square-foot building that will provide clubs and balls, concessions and restrooms, and an 840-square-foot pavilion with seating for up to 40 guests.
