‘Good to be back.’ Port Royal ice cream and donut shop reopens after a months-long closure

One of Port Royal’s favorite places to cure a sweet tooth is open again, selling an eccentric array of donuts after closing unexpectedly in November.

Maynard’s Ice Cream & Cafe on Paris Avenue has become a local treasure since opening its doors in 2020, serving up small-batch donuts, pastries, coffees and, of course, ice cream.

The business announced it was closing on Facebook last fall saying there was an “unexpected disruption with (their) delivery.”

“These are difficult times we are facing in the food services industry and we hope to have the issues resolved soon,” the post read. “In the meantime we want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and our warmest regards. We hope to see you all again soon...”

Months passed without updates until earlier this month when Maynard’s posted “Stay tuned opening soon” and updated the store hours.

The store reopened on St. Patrick’s Day and sold out of donuts in record time.

Some of the donut flavors available the first weekend back included cinnamon toast crunch, maple with brown sugar bacon, fresh pureed raspberry-filled topped with organic strawberries, and swimmin’ sharks.

As of now, Maynard’s hours posted on Yelp.com are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday but that may vary, so customers should be sure to check the cafe’s Facebook page.
