‘Clearly he has good taste.’ Stephen Colbert spotted at downtown Beaufort restaurant
Late-night TV talk show host Stephen Colbert made a stop at a popular Beaufort restaurant Monday where he took time to pose for photographs with staff, with photos appearing later on Facebook and prompting hundreds of comments.
“You just never know who you may run into in downtown Beaufort,” marketing agency Eat Play Stay Beaufort posted on Facebook Monday that included a photo of the comedian. “It seems The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is a big fan of Plums Restaurant too!”
Plums Restaurant, located on Bay Street in downtown Beaufort, is known for its creative Lowcountry cuisine and classic fare. One Facebook photo of Colbert includes Jennifer Polk Mader, director of operations at Plums, and bar manager kim Brodeur.
“Love him!” Dawn Harris commented. “And clearly he has great taste if he was having lunch at Plums Restaurant.”
The post prompted 312 comments and 121 shares.
The restaurant confirmed with the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette that Colbert was at the restaurant Monday when he stopped in for lunch. There was not a big crowd at the time, a restaurant spokesman said, and his visit did not prompt much of a fuss, with folks not wanting to bother the celebrity.
Colbert hosts the “Late Show” on CBS and previously hosted Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report” and appeared on “The Daily Show.”
The Beaufort sighting isn’t the first time Colbert, who grew up in Charleston, has been spotted in South Carolina since he became a well known comedian and talk-show host. He still returns to see family and was seen at Shem Creek Music in Mount Pleasant in 2017.
