Try authentic bubble tea, other drinks at this new shop on Hilton Head’s south end
The axiom that says people will be successful if they do what they love is exactly what the owners of a new bubble tea shop on Hilton Head are hoping.
Mina Nguyen and her business partner Quinn Nguyen, who both live in Bluffton, saw a way to turn their favorite treat — one that wasn’t readily available near them — into a business opportunity. They opened Bubble Berry bubble tea shop on Hilton Head’s south end at the end of 2021.
“My friend and I have always really loved bubble tea, and both our families have owned bubble tea shops,” Mina Nguyen said. “... Since there’s none here, we decided, ‘Let’s give it a try.’ ”
Bubble tea, also called boba tea, is a cold drink made with tea, milk and sweetened tapioca pearls.
Mina Nguyen said Bubble Berry aims to provide authentic bubble tea to customers, and the menu also includes “refreshers” — green tea mixed with fruit — and traditional smoothies as well as Vietnamese coffee.
Mango and wintermelon are popular bubble tea flavors, Mina Nguyen said.
Prices range from $4.50 for bubble tea to $6.50 for a smoothie.
Bubble Berry is not a franchise. It was created and is completely owned by the two women who met and still work at Nail Talk and Spa on Hilton Head. They thought tourists would be a good customer base because bubble tea is more widely available and known in larger cities, but they were unsure whether they’d be embraced by locals in the off-season.
“To our surprise, it has been really good,” Mina Nguyen said.
Bubble Berry’s walk-up window is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
