These popular restaurants will join Publix at Beaufort shopping center. Here’s what we know
Beaufort Plaza has announced four new tenants — including two well-known chain restaurants — as work continues on the Publix that’s expected to open at the site in 2022.
The new restaurants in the mix: Chipotle, which will be next to Ameris Bank, and Five Guys, which will be across from McDonald’s. It’s the first time either restaurant has had a location in the City of Beaufort. Both are expected to open in late fall 2022.
Five Guys, known for its “hand-crafted” burgers, has almost 1,700 locations worldwide and another 1,500 in development. The fast casual restaurant chain features hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries.
Burkes HomeCentric, a discount home goods retailer, is expected to open in mid-February 2022. Beaufort Plaza is already home to discount retailer Burkes Outlet.
Lowcountry Urgent Care will be opening across from Walgreen’s in the fall of 2022. Additional new retailers are expected to be announced early next year, according to the city.
Meanwhile, work continues on the 48,387-square-foot Publix.
A grand opening is expected sometime between April and July 2022, Chris Norberg, community relations manager for the Jacksonville Division of Publix, told The Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet.
Beaufort Plaza is located at Robert Smalls Parkway and Boundary Street.
“We’re excited by the progress being made at Beaufort Plaza,” City Manager Bill Prokop said in a news release. “The new retailers and urgent care will offer our residents even more choice.”
Changes at the shopping center follow the $33 million Boundary Street redevelopment project completed in 2018. It was designed to make one of the city’s main thoroughfares more welcoming while encouraging development.
