This Hilton Head Starbucks is closed due to a worker shortage. What to know
A Starbucks on Hilton Head Island’s south end has temporarily closed due to a worker shortage, a company spokesperson confirmed Monday.
The coffee shop at 11 Palmetto Bay Road has no reopening date yet, the spokesperson said in a phone call.
The staffing issue is not unique to Hilton Head.
Starbucks, which is based in Seattle, has been forced to temporarily close other locations across the country due to worker shortages, the spokesperson said.
The south end coffee shop on Hilton Head previously had been operating at reduced hours, regularly closing mid-afternoon this past summer.
Two other Starbucks on the island remain open, the spokesperson said Monday.
A north end location at 416 William Hilton Parkway was expected to be open until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Recently, the coffee shop had been open daily only from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., according to Starbucks.
A mid-island Starbucks at 24 Shelter Cove Lane has daily hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Bloomberg in late October reported that Starbucks is raising its average pay to $17 per hour in summer 2022. The average pay currently is $14 per hour. The company is trying to retain employees amid the nationwide staffing crunch, Bloomberg reported.
A wide range of factors is contributing to the country’s ongoing labor shortage in the pandemic-weary economy, including people not returning to their old jobs due to historically low wages, among other things, The New York Times has reported.
