Hilton Head shake + tea shop opens 2nd location in Okatie. Here’s where the 3rd will be

Island Nutrition quickly gained a loyal fan base after opening on Hilton Head last October, so it didn’t take long for the owner of the shake and tea shop to start thinking about a second location on the other side of the bridge.

“We had so many customers that lived in the Bluffton area, we just decided to go ahead and jump in,” said owner Melonie Hackman.

Okatie Nutrition opened Monday at 149 Riverwalk Blvd. in Ridgeland’s Riverwalk Business Park off S.C. 170. The space previously was a sewing machine and vacuum shop.

And, while Hackman is not ready to announce a specific location, plans are already being made for a third location to open in the first quarter of 2022 in Bluffton.

The shops will offer the same menu, and some of the 15 employees will move back and forth between the two locations. Hackman said fans should follow the shops’ Instagram and Facebook pages for information about hours and daily specials.

Shake and tea combos

One thing that makes the shops’ menu unique is the shake and tea combos.

“Ordering two drinks together is a different idea for some people,” Hackman told The Island Packet last fall. “But it’s like when you go into any other restaurant and order a meal and a drink. The shake has the nutrition of the meal while the tea is your drink.”

There are dozens of different flavors of shakes, such as Aloha Delight, Cake Batter or Oreo Peanut Butter Pie, and each shake has 21 vitamins and minerals and 24 grams of protein for about 250 calories. The teas, with names like Strawberry Breeze and Green Gusher, are made to be energizing, metabolism-boosting and calorie-burning. If tea isn’t your thing, there are coffee options on the menu, and coffee-flavored shakes as well.

“We call it our healthy bar,” Hackman said with a laugh.

‘Good vibes’

Island Nutrition opened in October 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Hackman and her boyfriend, Doug Rounds, had lived on Hilton Head for three months during the summer and found when they returned to Atlanta that they missed the island life.

“I felt homesick,” Hackman told The Island Packet. “During that time, my life perspective and our life priorities changed.”

She said her drive for the business hasn’t wavered since the opening.

“We love our shakes and our teas. We love what we are offering and what we are promoting,” she said, ”health, wellness, good vibes in the community.”
