2 family-friendly restaurants on Hilton Head close doors, and this time it’s permanent

Carrabba’s and Bonefish Grill, two family-friendly chain restaurants located mid-island on Hilton Head, have closed their doors permanently.

Both restaurants are owned by Bloomin’ Brands, headquartered in Tampa, Fla.

The Hilton Head Carrabba’s, which was located at William Hilton Parkway and Folly Field Road, has a sign posted on its door directing customers to its restaurant in Savannah.

Employees clearing out furnishings at the Hilton Head location on Friday said they could not provide information about the closing other than to say the last night the restaurant was open was Tuesday.

Likewise, at Bonefish Grill, located a few miles east along William Hilton Parkway in Fresh Market Shoppes, employees referred questions to a corporate spokesperson but said Tuesday was the last night that restaurant was open.

Tim Goss, of Bluffton Sign Co., was removing the large letters from the facade outside Bonefish just before 1 p.m. Friday.

Bonefish Grill has a restaurant at 5500 Abercorn St. in Savannah, and Carrabba’s is located at 10408 Abercorn St.

In a written statement, Elizabeth Watts, director of media and community relations, said all employees would be given a severance package.

“Closing a restaurant is never easy,” Watts’ statement said. “The decision was based solely on business circumstances and has no reflection on the employees or management team.”

Nothing in the statement likened the closings directly to coronavirus.

Several businesses on Hilton Head, including Main Street Cafe, Lucky Rooster Kitchen and Bar, Mixx on Main, Tio’s, Cool Cats Lounge, DryDock Seafood and Spirits, have announced temporary closings for various reasons related to the increase in coronavirus cases on Hilton Head and safety of customers and employees.

Clarification: An earlier version of this story listed Rollers Wine and Spirits among the closures. Only the wine bar is closed but retail remains open.
