JCPenney to close 154 stores in bankruptcy reorganization. What that means for Beaufort

JCPenney announced on Thursday that it was closing 154 stores, including its location in Beaufort.

The store’s address is 328 Robert Smalls Parkway in Cross Creek Plaza.

JCPenney first announced that it would be closing 30% of its locations as part of its restructuring when it filed for bankruptcy in mid-May, but it did not specifiy which stores would close.

The retailer said store-closing sales will begin in the coming weeks and take 10-16 weeks to complete.

Other stores in South Carolina set to close are in Anderson, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Orangeburg and Rock Hill.

The Savannah JCPenney is among the nearly 500 locations that recently reopened after coronavirus orders shuttered them. The store, inside Oglethorpe Mall, is not on the initial list of stores to be closed permanently.
