New $30 million CBD facility in Hampton County plans to add 107 jobs. Here are details

A hemp growing and processing company announced Wednesday that it was investing $30 million to establish a facility in Hampton County.

Yield Scientific, a subsidiary of GEM Opportunity Zone Fund, plans to hire 107 employees at the Early Branch business, according to a news release from the South Carolina governor’s office.

The company specializes in pharmaceutical-grade CBD products that are sold under the brand Victis CBD.

CBD is cannabidiol, a chemical compound extracted from the hemp flower and used as a dietary supplement or in personal care products. Some say CBD can help with anxiety and pain management without making the user high.

The new facility will be located at the Southern Carolina Industrial Campus and expects to be operating by early 2021.

Those interested in applying for a job may go to www.yieldsci.com, the news release said. Specific jobs were not yet listed on Wednesday afternoon.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project, and Hampton County was awarded a $50,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant.

“Yield Scientific is a wonderful addition to South Carolina’s burgeoning hemp industry,” Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers said in the news release. “Their greenhouse operations and processing capacity will create skilled agriculture jobs — and in an Opportunity Zone, no less.”
