4-story hotel once protested by residents in Bluffton’s Seagrass Station now open
A new hotel, protested by some nearby residents when it was first proposed two years ago, opened in late April marked its grand opening on April 29 along S.C. 170 in Okatie.
The four-story Extended Stay America, at 108 Seagrass Station Road, has 120 guest rooms, according to a news release.
Each room has a kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, cookware, utensils and dishes. The property has an on-site laundry room, fitness room and is pet-friendly as well.
The building is only the fourth built using a new prototype design, the news release says. It is meant to cater to business travelers and is near the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital and the Sun City Hilton Head and Seagrass Station communities.
Depending on the day of the week and the amenities, prices range from around $70 a night for a room with one queen bed to around $90 a night for a room with two, according to booking information on the hotel’s website.
After preliminary plans were submitted to the Town of Bluffton in April 2018, just over 400 signatures were added to a petition calling for officials to reject the hotel.
Those signing the petition expressed worries that the hotel would cause an increase in crime and would lower property values in the area.
