Plans are underway for a new Starbucks at Okatie Crossing at the intersection of S.C. 170 and U.S. 278, according to an area developer who said the coffee corporation is preparing to sign a lease.

The deal is expected to move forward soon, Doug Horne, president of Horne Properties, said Wednesday.

"We have a Starbucks that we are just about to get a lease signed on," Horne said. "We hope to start relatively soon."

When asked for a time line on when the lease will be signed and construction will begin, Horne said he was not aware of a definite one.

The coffee spot would be next to Verizon Wireless, which is next to the Cracker Barrel in Hardeeville off U.S. 278.

Attempts to reach Starbucks officials on Wednesday for comment on the lease were not successful.
