A landscape enhancement designer and business developer for The Greenery won third place in the statewide “Carolina Yards” competition, according to a press release from the company.

The competition, held by Clemson University Extension Service, focuses on watershed friendly landscapes, the release states.

“I was surprised to win,” said Drake in the release. “This is not a competition for having a nice looking yard. The evaluation is based on a scorecard called the 12 principles of the Carolina Yards Program.”

The principals include using plants fit for the conditions of the yard, fertilizer, pesticides, pruning, conservation of water and removal of invasive plats.

The Greenery is an employee-owned company serving Savannah and coastal South Carolina.
