One driver waited months to wash their vehicle until this carwash reopened in Bluffton
The Island Car Wash at 1008 Fording Island Road in Bluffton is now officially reopen, after being closed for nearly three months for a partial renovation.
Originally the remodeling project was set to take about a month when the business temporarily closed Aug. 4, but general manager Brian Rajkovich said contractors didn’t bring enough workers to complete the job and Hurricane Matthew also caused a bit of a delay. The carwash officially reopened Nov. 7.
“We were supposed to be open Sept. 9,” he said.
The carwash, which has a sister location on William Hilton Parkway on Hilton Head Island, has been at its location off U.S. 278 for almost three decades, serving visitors and locals.
Already, Rajkovich said he has seen former customers return to the carwash who are ecstatic that the business is finally reopen.
“Today we were talking to somebody who had gone a couple months without washing their car and they were so happy that we were open again,” he said. “They didn’t want to go anywhere else, so ...”
At the newly renovated carwash, you’ll notice that a structure where workers would change oil and detail customers’ cars is now gone, giving the business more space to expand their full service work like vacuuming and cleaning.
“And then it also allowed us to expand to the express wash side of it, where people could vacuum out their cars, (clean) the windows,” Rajkovich said.
He said the carwash previously did not offer free vacuuming but now includes that service, along with free towels and spray bottles.
“It’s a service that nobody in the area offers right now,” he said.
