Expect to see more nostalgic soda-lovers and sugar addicts at Shelter Cove now

Halloween, the hallmark candy season, might be more than a month away, but there’s one local store that has a big enough inventory to launch you into a sugar rush right now.

Rocket Fizz, a candy and craft soda shop, opened Sept. 4 in Shelter Cove Towne Center, according to a Facebook post on the company’s page.

When I peeked in the windows before they opened for the day Wednesday, I saw more candy than my blood sugar levels would know what to do with.

This is a place where nostalgic adults can find blasts from their pasts. It’s probably the only place on the island where you can get a vintage-style Santa Coca-cola sign, bacon-flavored soda and — to my delight — Hello Kitty candy.

This isn’t the only new development at Shelter Cove. Have you noticed that plot that’s roped off with an orange plastic fence between Jane Bistro and Belk?

This is where a new Spartina 449, Talbots, two additional tenants and maybe even a fab’rik will go.
