New joint EMS/fire station is coming to Bluffton. Take a look
As Bluffton’s growth continues to stretch public safety resources, Beaufort County leaders are moving forward with plans for a new fire station to serve some of the area’s fastest-growing communities.
“Station 39,” described as a joint EMS/ fire station, will be located at 301 Sun City Blvd. It will serve Sun City, Cypress Ridge, Mill Creek and Lawton Station.
On Monday, the Beaufort County Council will vote to secure more than $5 million to construct the new station. The county has already invested more than $300,000 in the station’s design.
Once funding is secured from the county, the permitting process will move forward, said Bluffton Township Fire District spokesperson Stephen Combs. The groundbreaking will likely take place later this spring or early summer, Combs said.
The project was first put out to bid nearly two years ago. Power line concerns and sewer lines running below the original planned footprint caused some delays, Combs said.
The fire district has already been laying the groundwork for its 10th station’s opening, he said. They have increased staff and have an engine earmarked for the station. At this point, Combs said, they are just waiting for it to be built.
The station design will be similar to Station 38, located behind River Ridge Academy.
