Drivers across Beaufort and Jasper County could encounter reduced visibility Saturday morning as patchy, dense fog settles over parts of southeast Georgia and South Carolina, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the fog is expected to linger until around 9 a.m., with visibility at times dropping to a quarter mile or less. It could also vary significantly over short distances on the roadway.

Police encourage drivers to leave extra distance ahead of your car in case of a sudden stop.

As of 8 a.m., the fog appeared to be most dense in areas north of the Broad River along S.C. 170, according to Beaufort County traffic cameras.
