United, Hilton Head Island airport adding more flights to Chicago
United Airlines is expanding its seasonal flight schedule at Hilton Head Island Airport.
The airport said in a Thursday email announcement that United will offer daily flights between Hilton Head and Chicago O’Hare International Airport from April 3 to Aug. 15. Previously, seasonal flights between the two airports via United were only available on the weekends, Beaufort County airports director Jon Rembold said.
United will also run flights between Hilton Head and Chicago every Saturday from March 7 to Oct. 10, an extension of its typical schedule. Flights between the two airports usually wrap up for the season in August.
Travelers to other places in the Midwest will be able to connect to smaller cities through Chicago, the airport said.
“United Airlines’ continued investment in Hilton Head Island strengthens our connection to the world,” Rembold said in the email. “This expanded service to Chicago gives our residents and visitors even more flexibility and convenience, and it comes at an exciting time as we prepare to open our new terminal expansion in mid-April 2026.”
Hilton Head airport expansion, new terminal
The airport is in the middle of a massive expansion of facilities, including a new terminal building and a renovation of the existing one.
Hilton Head is adding a new 27,000-square-foot terminal building to its existing 18,000-square-foot facility, making more room for screening, gate seating and retail. This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in April; once it’s done, a remodel of the airport’s current terminal will begin.
United also flies between Hilton Head and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on a seasonal basis.
