Nationwide FAA outage impacts Hilton Head, Savannah airports. Was your flight delayed?

More than 1,000 flights were canceled and upwards of 6,000 were delayed Wednesday morning following a nationwide technological outage at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), causing all major U.S. airlines to halt operations.

According to The New York Times, the Tuesday outage “left pilots, airlines and airports without crucial safety information.” The FAA lifted its ground stop order shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, giving airlines the green light to resume operations.

But by then, thousands of flights had been canceled or delayed, including in the Lowcountry. Here’s a list of all delays and cancellations at Savannah and Hilton Head airports.

“Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews,” the FAA wrote on Twitter. “The ground stop has been lifted. We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem.”

The agency previously said it was pausing U.S. departures until 9 a.m. eastern “to allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information.”
