New Hilton Head Island farmers market opens May 1

Hilton Head has a farmers market again.

The Shelter Cove Park Farmers Market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday from May 1 until Oct. 30. The market will feature 41 vendors selling local farm-fresh produce, art work, sweets, baked goods and more.

The Shelter Cove market will be the first on Hilton Head since a market at Honey Horn shut down earlier this year. Read the details about that whole situation here.

The Lowcountry has been fertile ground for farmers markets in recent years. We did a story about the multitude of markets and whether they could last a couple years ago. Read it here. On a related note, we also just ran a feature about the growing popularity of SILO, which is connecting farmers to consumers.
