A new restaurant on Hilton Head Island offers an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet with waterfront views.
“There’s a waterfront view from every table,” said Ned Gilleland Jr., co-owner of Captain Gillan’s Waterfront Seafood Buffet and Raw Bar. “And we have a lot of outdoor seating right on the water, maybe 80 (seats) on one deck and 70 on another.”
Captain Gillan’s occupies the same building as the former Kingfisher restaurant in Shelter Cove Harbour at 18 Harbourside Lane. Gilleland, who opened Captain Gillan’s with his brother, Joe Gilleland, 23 days ago, said the remodeled restaurant has a New England look. There is seating for about 400 people.
For $32, patrons can sample as much as they want from the salad bar, chilled seafood bar, hot buffet and dessert bar. A cheaper option is the $16.95 salad bar buffet, which includes the chilled seafood bar. The menu also includes a la carte items.

“We’re the only restaurant on Hilton Head that has an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet,” Ned Gilleland said Monday. “The crab legs are obviously the big thing; people go to town on those.”
Gilleland, who’s been in the restaurant business for three decades, has owned and operated 12 establishments on Hilton Head. But Calabash-style, all-you-can-eat buffet seafood is a new venture.
“Nobody had ever tried (on Hilton Head), to my knowledge, … an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet, which is basically what they do in Myrtle Beach with the Calabash seafood.”
Captain Gillan’s is open seven days a week. The oyster bar begins serving at 4:30 p.m. daily, and the buffet opens at 5 p.m.
