Wing lovers rejoice.
Hilton Head’s 21st annual Wingfest returns to the island this weekend, with plans to serve up more than 7,000 pounds of chicken wings.
Hosted by the Island Recreation Association and Hargray Communications, the event is expected to draw some 4,000 residents and visitors, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, at Shelter Cove Community Park, 39 Shelter Cove Lane.
The event will feature a kid’s zone, rock climbing wall, bungee jump, live music, wing eating contest and a visit from the Planters NUTmobile.
In addition, 15-20 local restaurants will compete for the title of “Best Wings of Hilton Head.”
A laser show will kick off the event from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the park. Friday night’s activities will include live music, kid-friendly events, tailgating and friendly restaurant rivalry.
The Nick Poulin Trio will play from 5-7 p.m. and Groove Town Assault from 7-9 p.m. during Friday’s laser show.
The Storks will play from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Deas Guyz will play from 1:30- 3:30 p.m. and Ellen Drive will play from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday.
Admission to Wingfest is $6. Admission to Friday’s laser show is also $6. Children 10 and younger will be admitted for free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
