Chipotle proposed for May River Crossing in Bluffton. What we know
A popular fast-casual restaurant chain known for its burritos, bowls and tacos could be coming to Bluffton.
Bluffton’s Development Review Committee will review an application for a new Chipotle Mexican Grill at May River Crossing during a regularly scheduled meeting on April 1.
The committee will evaluate whether the proposed 2,385-square-foot restaurant and supporting infrastructure meets the town’s standards and requirements. It will review the applicant’s request for approval in the Highway Corridor Overlay District, which is a zoning designation aimed to improve the quality and appearance of development along major roadways.
The 1.5-acre lot where the restaurant would go, between May River Crossing Dental and Starbucks off Okatie Highway, is situated in one of the town’s planned unit developments. The land was sold to its current owner in January for $915,000, according to public records.
There are currently two Chipotle restaurants in Beaufort County, one on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort and one on Fording Island Road in Bluffton.
