Nick’s Steak & Seafood, a longtime staple of Hilton Head’s casual and seafood-centric dining scene, will close its doors for good on Saturday, Dec. 13, the owners announced Monday on Facebook.

Nick’s Steak & Seafood, located at 9 Park Lane, has been owned and operated by married couple Josh Protch and Katie Hopkins since June 2004.

For more than two decades Nick’s was known for quality food in a relaxed setting. It built a loyal following with a menu featuring signature burgers, fresh fish, steaks, pasta and a full kids’ menu.

“This is the closing of the book for us,” co-owner Katie Hopkins said. She and her husband have no plans to open another location or re-create Nick’s elsewhere, she said.

Folks will still be able to visit Nick’s Steak & Seafood Monday through Saturday starting at 4 p.m. until Dec. 13.

What’s next for the space?

Hopkins confirmed that the Town of Hilton Head Island is planning to purchase the building, prompting the restaurant’s closure.

According to an Oct. 21 Town Council meeting, the parcels at 9 and 10 Park Lane — a combined 3.16 acres — are slated for redevelopment as part of a new Fire Rescue Headquarters planned for 10 Park Lane.

Under that concept, Nick’s building at 9 Park Lane would be demolished and repurposed as open space and parking to support the new facility.

Heather Woolwine, spokesperson for the Town of Hilton Head, said that the land sale and purchase are still under negotiation, and final plans have not yet been set.
