Hilton Head’s restaurants feature a wide variety of foods, Asian, French, Italian and Mexican among them, but the mark of a great beach town has to be the quality of its seafood offerings.

Double underline that when we are talking about Hilton Head, where shrimp can be caught in the morning and tumbled into a Lowcountry boil by afternoon or when the words “catch of the day” on a menu really can be taken literally.

Personal flavor preference plays a big part in diners’ choices, as does the atmosphere, location, cooking style and cost.

We wondered: Would it be possible to choose the most well-rounded among Hilton Head’s many seafood restaurants? Is there a restaurant that offers a high standard of dishes and service that tourists and residents alike can count on, whether it’s a place known for a casual lunch or the fanciest of special occasion dinners?

What do you think of when you hear the words Hilton Head seafood restaurant? Is the most well-known really the best or is there a hidden gem that deserves more recognition?

Let’s find out together! We are accepting nominations for the best overall seafood restaurant on Hilton Head. The top 16 in number of nominations will move forward into a poll where readers may cast a ballot for their favorites. Each round, we’ll cut the field in half until we get down to a winner.

We’ve done this before, choosing Hilton Head’s best burger, Beaufort County’s best fried chicken and Beaufort County’s best pizza.

The ‘fine print’

Chains, food trucks, new restaurants and long-time local establishments are all eligible to be nominated as long as they are located on Hilton Head Island (but not on the Bluffton side of the bridge, no matter what their postal address says).

Ideally, the business would be known primarily for its seafood dishes.

Please note the only prize is bragging rights. It’s also worth noting that, because we aren’t limiting the number of times anyone can vote, this poll should not be considered scientific. It’s just for fun!

Fill out the form below by Friday, May 26, at 5 p.m. and watch islandpacket.com next week for the announcement of the top 16 so you can vote your favorites into the next round.
